Does an AOC Monitor Have Speakers?
Most do not, and one letter in the model code usually tells you. Here is how to read it, and why Windows lists a monitor that has no speakers at all.
Most AOC monitors do not have built-in speakers, and the ones that do are concentrated in the office and general purpose ranges rather than the AGON and Gaming lines. AOC sells a very large catalog across many markets, so the series name settles nothing. The model code on the rear label is the only reliable answer, and it takes a minute to check.
There is also a specific reason people think their AOC monitor has speakers when it does not.
Check the model code
AOC model codes look like 24G2SPU, Q27G2S, CU34G2X or 27B2H, and they encode more than they appear to.
The leading digits are the screen size in inches. Letters after that indicate the panel family, with G marking gaming models and B, P or E marking business and general purpose lines.
The trailing letters are where audio hides. Across much of the range, an S or SP in the suffix indicates built-in speakers. So a 24G2SPU has speakers and a 24G2U typically does not, despite being nearly the same monitor.
That convention is not perfectly consistent across every generation and region, so treat it as a strong hint rather than a rule.
Confirm on AOC’s own product page for your exact code, looking for a Speaker or Audio line in the specification. If it is not listed, the monitor does not have them.
Why people think theirs has speakers
Nearly every AOC monitor includes a 3.5 mm headphone output, and many also include a 3.5 mm audio input.
Seeing an audio jack on the back is what convinces people there must be speakers inside. There usually are not. The output exists so the monitor can pass along the audio it receives over HDMI or DisplayPort, and the input exists on models with speakers so an older analog source can feed them.
A second source of confusion is Windows. When a monitor is connected by HDMI or DisplayPort, Windows lists it as an audio playback device whether or not it has speakers, because the connection is capable of carrying audio. Selecting it produces silence on a monitor without speakers, which looks like a fault and is not.
If you can see two small grilles or slots on the rear or underside of the bezel, you probably have speakers. If the specification says nothing, you do not.
What the built-in speakers are like
Where AOC does fit them, they are typically a pair of 2 or 3 watt drivers.
Expect them to be adequate for system sounds, video calls and background video, and inadequate for music or films.
This is not a criticism of AOC specifically. It is a physical constraint that applies to every monitor. Producing low frequencies requires moving air, which requires cone area and enclosed cabinet volume, and a monitor bezel a couple of centimeters deep has neither. What comes out is thin and quiet by necessity.
The drivers usually fire downward or backward as well, since the front is all screen, so the sound reaches you after bouncing off the desk or the wall.
Treat built-in monitor speakers as a convenience that saves you plugging something in, not as an audio solution.

For a PC alone, connect speakers to the computer directly. You avoid the monitor’s very basic audio conversion, which is where the hiss people complain about comes from.
Making the headphone jack work
The audio arrives at the monitor over the HDMI or DisplayPort cable, and the monitor extracts it. Windows has to be told to send audio there.
- Right click the speaker icon in the taskbar and open Sound settings.
- Under Output, select the entry naming your monitor, which often appears as AOC or as High Definition Audio Device.
- Check the monitor’s own volume in its on-screen menu, which is a separate control that frequently sits at zero.
- On models with an audio input, check the menu is set to the digital source rather than the analog input.
If no monitor entry appears at all, the cable is the usual cause. DVI and VGA carry no audio whatsoever, and some cheap adapters strip it out of HDMI. Connect with HDMI or DisplayPort directly.
