Check the model code
LG monitor codes look like 27GP950-B, 32GQ950-B, 27GR93U-B or 27GN950-B, and each identifies a specific panel and revision.
Reading it, the leading digits are the screen size in inches. The letters that follow indicate the range, with G marking gaming models. The characters after that identify the generation and panel, and the suffix after the dash is the color.
Two monitors with nearly identical codes can differ in ports and features, so match the whole code rather than the first few characters.
Take that full code to LG’s own support pages and open the specification. Look for a line marked Speaker, Audio or Sound. If speakers are not listed, the monitor does not have them, and nothing in Windows will change that.
Retailer listings are unreliable here. Sellers copy specification blocks between similar models, and audio is one of the fields that gets copied wrong most often.
Why gaming monitors usually skip speakers
It is a deliberate allocation of cost rather than an oversight.
A speaker needs enclosed volume to produce anything below the midrange, and a thin gaming panel has none to spare. What fits is a pair of small drivers producing thin, quiet sound that reviewers then criticize.
The budget goes to the specifications buyers compare: refresh rate, response time, panel technology and adaptive sync certification. Audio does not appear on that comparison.
The assumption also holds up. Someone buying a 4K 144 Hz gaming monitor almost certainly already owns a headset.

The headphone jack works differently than you expect
This produces most of the support questions and understanding it solves them.
HDMI and DisplayPort both carry audio alongside video. The monitor extracts that audio stream and sends it to the headphone socket. The monitor is acting as an audio device on your computer.
So plugging headphones into the monitor is not enough. Windows must be told to send audio there.
- Right click the speaker icon in the taskbar and open Sound settings.
- Under Output, select the entry naming your monitor, which usually appears as LG or as High Definition Audio Device.
- Check the monitor’s own volume in the on-screen menu, which is a separate control that often sits low or at zero.
If no monitor entry appears, the cable is the usual cause. DVI carries no audio at all and some inexpensive adapters strip it from HDMI or DisplayPort.
Windows will also list the monitor as a playback device even on models with no speakers, because the connection is capable of carrying audio. Selecting it then produces silence, which looks like a fault and is not.

Whether it helps is personal. Some players find the positional cues clearer, others find the imaging smeared and turn it off. Try both.
